Tusker win Kagame Cup

Tusker from Kenya came from behind to beat URA of Uganda 2-1 to win the East and Central Africa Kagame Club Cup in Dar es Salaam today. Ismail Kigozi put URA in the lead after 25 minutes and they managed to hold onto their advantage up to halftime.

Tusker, who are coached by the Harambee Stars boss, Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, rallied and managed to draw level midway through the second half courtesy of a goal by their towering defender Joseph Shikokoti. With two minutes left before the final whistle, Oscar Kadenge secured the win for his team with a stunning strike.

The team officials who were very happy after the match said President Kibaki had sent a congratulatory message and a jet to pick the team. They were awarded US $ 30,000 donated by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, while the URA took home $20,000 and Simba, who won the third place without kicking the ball, were given $10,000. It is their third title since the year 2000 –having won the trophy in 2000 and 2001 but they had won it twice in 1988 and 1989 when they were still called Kenya Breweries.
